Scented candles
As I passed his bedroom, I remembered that I had been looking for a small flashlight earlier in the day. I thought there was a chance it had ended up in his room, so I quietly opened the door and stepped inside. The room was dark except for a faint glow from a streetlamp outside, which cast long shadows across the floor.
Trying not to wake him, I crouched down and looked beneath the bed.
At first, I saw nothing unusual. There were a few storage boxes, a forgotten sock, and some dust gathered along the edges. Then my eyes caught sight of something farther back. It was partially hidden in the darkness, but I could immediately tell it didn’t belong with the other items.
Beds
The object had a strange shape. Even from a distance, it looked unusual enough to grab my attention. Curious, I reached underneath and slowly pulled it toward me.
As it emerged from the shadows, my confusion only grew.
The thing was covered with pointed extensions that stuck out in every direction. In the dim light, those protrusions created sharp silhouettes against the wall. It looked almost organic, yet mechanical at the same time. For a brief moment, I wondered whether it was some kind of decorative item, but I couldn’t imagine why it would be hidden under a bed.
I turned it over carefully.
Home & Garden
There were no obvious markings. No labels. No packaging. No instructions.
The more I examined it, the more questions I had.
The strange shape triggered my imagination. It reminded me of photographs I had seen of deep-sea creatures with unusual bodies and spines. At other angles, it looked like something from a science-fiction movie. Every time I thought I had identified it, another detail made me reconsider.
Normally, I consider myself a practical person. I prefer simple explanations over dramatic ones. Yet there was something about discovering an unfamiliar object unexpectedly that made my mind race through possibilities.
LED lights
Where had it come from?
How long had it been there?
Why had I never seen it before?
The quiet room suddenly felt much less ordinary.
I carried the object into the hallway where the lighting was brighter. The additional light revealed more details but surprisingly provided few answers. The surface appeared to be made of plastic. It was lightweight but sturdy. The design seemed intentional, though its purpose remained unclear.
I searched for a switch.
