Geographic language is another relatively common condition. It is characterized by smooth, reddish patches on the surface of the tongue, surrounded by slightly raised edges.
It is called "geographical" because these plates change shape and position, resembling maps or continents on the tongue. While it can be worrisome, this condition is not cancerous or dangerous to health, and many people don't even have any symptoms at all.
Why does a cracked or geographical tongue appear?
The causes are not always clear, but researchers have identified several factors that may contribute to its development.
1. Genetic
predisposition Some people are born with a greater predisposition to cracks in the tongue, suggesting a hereditary component.
2. Vitamin
deficiency A lack of B vitamins can be linked to changes in the surface of the tongue.
