There were a few seconds of silence.
—Do you want to cancel the entire reservation?
—No. Just that room.
—Understood. And the reservation for the Premium Family Suite?
I smiled.
—That one stays exactly as it is… in my name.
Five minutes later I received the confirmation email.
Roger had no idea.
When we landed four hours later, he came out of first class with a huge smile.
"Did you see how comfortable the flight was?" he asked.
-I guess so.
We took a taxi to the hotel.
While I was checking in with the children, Roger waited behind me with his arms crossed.
The receptionist handed me a card.
—Welcome back, Mrs. Laura. Your Premium Family Suite is ready.
Roger stepped forward.
—Perfect. And our suite?
The receptionist checked the computer.
He frowned.
—I'm sorry, sir… that room was cancelled this morning.
Her smile disappeared.
-That!?
—It must be a mistake.
The receptionist shook her head.
—The cancellation was authorized by the reservation holder.
They all turned towards me.
I was still arranging our youngest daughter's backpack.
Roger looked at me, confused.
—Laura… what did you do?
I watched him calmly.
—The same thing you did to me.
-As?
—I separated the family.
His mother's eyes widened.
—Are you crazy?
I shook my head slowly.
—No. I just followed your logic. If you wanted to enjoy a vacation with your mom while I took care of the kids on my own… I thought you'd also enjoy looking for a place to sleep together.
Roger started to get nervous.
—Laura, stop playing around.
I took another sheet of paper out of my bag.
It was confirmation of the only room available for that week.
The Family Suite.
With capacity for four people.
Me and the children.
