My husband booked first-class seats for himself and his mother, and then handed me three economy-class tickets with the children – so I taught him a lesson before the plane even took off.

Nothing else.

—And what about us? —asked his mother.

—The hotel is completely full. But I'm sure you'll find something.

Roger raised his voice.

—You can't do this to me!

I looked him straight in the eyes.

—And you could leave me alone with three children during an eight-hour flight so you could travel comfortably with your mother?

He did not respond.

He called nearby hotels for almost an hour.

Everything was crowded because of a summer festival.

In the end, he ended up paying a fortune for two small rooms in a motel thirty minutes from the beach.

His mother didn't stop complaining for a second.

Meanwhile, I was taking our children to the hotel pool.

For the first time in years…

I wasn't cooking for anyone.

I wasn't cleaning behind anyone.

I wasn't trying to please anyone.

I only enjoyed being with my children.

That night I received a message from Roger.

“I’m sorry. I never thought about how you would feel.”

I read the message several times.
